"The Helping Hand": National Armenian Relief Committee
Miss Emily C. Wheeler was the secretary
of the National Armenian Relief Committee with headquarters at 40 King
Street, Worcester , Massachusetts, USA. The Committee published a small
quarterly called, "The Helping Hand." Subscription cost was 10 cent a
year.
Miss Emily Crosby Wheeler (1854-1936) was elected to take Rev. Knapp’s place, using her home at 40 King Street Worcester, Massachusetts as headquarters. This enabled her to keep ‘overhead’ costs to a minimum and allowed funds which were raised to be used maximally for the charitable work. She was intimately familiar with Harpoot, spoke Armenian and had served there for 16 years with her parents, and was there at the time of the massacres in 1896.
